2.3.3. Risk Analysis

Mining operators must comply with various national mining safety regulations regarding specific hazards, such as gas outburst guidelines, gas drainage guidelines, spontaneous combustion guidelines, etc.

There is government consideration of continuous improvement processes to manage risks, such as the PDCA process – Plan, Do, Check, Action. More recently, the use of the risk matrix and various risk analysis models such as the Bow-tie and fault tree analyses have been used to model and analyse failure processes of engineering, in the case of coal mining, this includes mine operations and engineering operations. One of such mine site is at the Xuandong coal mines, a host site for the Australia-China Coal Mine Safety Demonstration Project (www.simtars.qld.gov.au).
