A reverse circulation drill rig was working in highly pyritic ground, when the dust extractor unit began to discharge smoke. The unit door was opened to investigate the cause and several people were exposed to smoke and fumes. Smouldering filter socks within the unit were extinguished with a dry chemical powder extinguisher.
