The sketch above shows a partly dismantled 30"X72" rolls crusher in a horizontal position with the top steel channel and the rolls removed from the two bearing housing assemblies. These bearing housing assemblies can slide in or out between the top steel channel and the base frame in order to adjust the gap between the rolls. This adjustment occurs when the take up screws are turned. The mechanism that achieves this depends upon retaining plates being welded to the end of take up screws and being secured inside the back of the bearing housing assemblies. The welding on the left hand assembly was broken.
