The Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2001 (Qld) states:

explosion protection category Ex ia means explosion protection category Ex ia under AS 2380.7 ‘Electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres—Explosion-protection techniques—Intrinsic safety i’, section 1.6.2.

The standard referred to in the legislation AS/NZS 60079.11:2000 Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres - Intrinsic safety "i" was superseded by AS/NZS 60079.11:2006 Explosive Atmospheres (this Standard) in 2006.

 

About this Standard:

This Standard specifies the construction and testing of intrinsically safe apparatus intended for use in an explosive gas atmosphere and for associated apparatus, which is intended for connection to intrinsically safe circuits which enter such atmospheres.
